Ryan's Dentist Appointment

I took Ryan to his 6 month check-up with the dentist.  I've been telling Ryan that he had a dentist appointment for about a week now trying to talk it up so he wouldn't be scared.  Grandma M. also talked it up to Ryan yesterday when we were in Levan.

My mom came up to help me with Jake while I took Ry to the dentist.  Jim was going to come home and watch Jake for me, but my mom had a couple errands to run up north so I asked if she would help me with Jake when she came up and then we would run her errands (and a couple of mine, too, haha).  I decided to have my mom and Jake just come to the dentists office with us.  That way, we could just leave from there to run our errands.  Jake would be entertained because the dentist office is kid friendly :)

My boys love the train table at the dentist's office.

Ryan did amazingly well at his dentist appointment.  The last two times we've been to the dentist, they haven't been able to get any x-rays of his teeth.  This time, he got right up in the chair and sat there like a big boy.  He did get a little scared right before they took the x-rays, so we had to do a little sweet talking to get him to sit there.  But, he did it and the x-rays worked (meaning, he sat still enough so they got good pics of his teeth).  His teeth looked healthy in the pics, too.  Wahoo!

I LOVE Ryan's face in this picture!

Ry wanted to go back and play with the train table after the x-rays were done.  But, we had to get his teeth cleaned.  We convinced him to get his teeth cleaned by being able to brush the horse's teeth and watch a movie.  He loved brushing the horse's teeth.  He kept telling it to open up--too funny.

While waiting to get his teeth cleaned, Ryan brushed the horse's teeth.

Ry wasn't too sure about laying down in the exam chair to watch Wall-E though, but he did it.  He whined a little while his teeth were getting cleaned, but absolutely no crying.  I was so proud of Ry!

Ryan watched a movie while he got his teeth cleaned.

Ry was so excited to be done and get back to the train table.  It took a little convincing to get Ry outside to ride the horse so we could leave, but eventually he did it.

After we were done at the dentist, we headed to Orem to run our errands.  We went to Famous Footwear, Old Navy, Noodles (for lunch), and Target.  The boys were spent after Target and fell asleep in the car.  I made a quick stop at Kohl's and Mullett Hoover (to pick up Jim's ring--it was being taken down a size) while my mom sat in the car with the boys.  Then we headed back to Spanish Fork.

My mom made an appointment to get a pedicure at a spa in Spanish Fork at 4pm so she hung out at our house until her appointment.

I was SO proud of Ryan and how he handled the dentist today!  It was fun to get to run errands with Grandma afterwards--definitely not our normal day :)

Discovery Gateway Museum

We told Ryan we would take him to ride a white train if he'd take his newly prescribed eye drops like a big boys, without whining or crying.  He did ok the first couple of days, but after that he'd actually ASK for his eye drops.  I am seriously still kind of in shock about it all.  If anyone has witnessed Jim & I giving Ryan eye drops in the past, it pretty much looks like we're torturing the poor kid.  When in reality, all we were trying to do is help him.

I can't blame him though.  Ry had a terrible experience with some eye drops that were prescribed to him by our old pediatrician before we knew he had allergies.  I'm kind of bitter about the old pediatrician, by the way.  He seemed to insist Ryan did not have allergies and would not refer us to an allergist to get him checked out.  Per our insurance, we have to be referred to a specialist.  Instead, he told us to just keep giving Ryan Benadryl and the very painful eye drops (we know they were painful because my brother in law Casey has had to use them before and said they definitely sting).  Yeah, little did he know Ryan is allergic to almost everything and what he told us to do did not help him at all.  Anyway, enough of my rant :)

Today was the day for the ride on the white train, aka trax. We decided we'd also take the boys to the Discovery Gateway Museum and let them play.  We didn't get out of Spanish Fork until after Noon, and made it to Sandy by 1:15pm.  Ryan was so excited when he first saw trax!  He could hardly wait to get out of the car and get to the train!  Jake had fallen asleep on the way up and he kept saying, " Wake up Jake! There's the train!!"  It was really cute.

We got our tickets (which were quite expensive, in my opinion.  We weren't sure if the boys needed their own ticket or not so we got them one just to be safe.  It was $4.50 per person round trip, so $18.00 for our family of 4, yowza!) and got on the train.  The boys were so excited!  The train would make beeping noises and Jake would say, "What's that?"  Then he'd say, "All aboard!!"

After about 5 minutes on the train, we were on our way.  I don't do well on carnival rides, etc. and riding the train felt like a carnival ride.  Let's just say it made me a bit nauseous, ick.

The train took us really close to our destination.  We just had to cross the street and the museum was down 1 block.  We went inside, got our tickets, and got to playing (after a quick diaper change for each of them, of course).  They gave us wristbands to wear while we were in the museum.  Jake was flipping out trying to get his wrist band off.  Luckily, they weren't sticklers about wearing the wrist bands and let Jake take his off.

The boys had tons of fun.  Although, the things I thought my boys would be interested in playing with (the grocery store, little house, etc.) they didn't even go to.  My boys loved the ball area, the water trap (as Jim called it), and the helicopter.  The water area was way cool, but would be better for moms with smaller children if it wasn't there :)  They have these plastic aprons for the kids to wear so they don't get wet.  Of course Jake would not wear it so he was getting sopping wet.  We had to pry him away from it and go to another area.

The helicopter was also way cool.  The only problem was there was a group of kids that parked their selves in the cock pit and would not get out.  Their parents were right there, too, and didn't seem to care that there were other kids that would like a turn.  Jake was perfectly content sitting in the back of the helicopter though.  He got ticked, again, when we wanted to go to another area.  We stayed outside for a bit and drew with chalk then decided to go back downstairs to the first area we were at when we got there.

We let the boys play in the ball area one more time, then Jake started to get fussy so we decided to walk to the food court and get a bite to eat.  Both boys did not want to leave.  They were having tons of fun, but we could tell they were getting tired.

The boys stayed awake while we got some food.  They were really ornery though so we made it quick.  We made our way back to wait for the train.  The boys fell asleep within minutes of being on the train and slept most of the way home.

We had a fun filled day.  I think Ryan really liked riding the train.

Ryan's 3 Year Old Pics

Originally, I had scheduled to have Natalie Park take Ryan's pictures on March 25th.  Of course, it SNOWED!  It would've been perfect, too.  We were staying in Levan while Jim had drill, but Mother Nature had other plans.  I re-scheduled for April 17th, but we had Dallin's family party that evening.

Luckily, Natalie was coming up from St. George again this weekend so we re-scheduled for today.  I have been watching the weather all week to make sure it was going to be nice today.  Wouldn't ya know, it was supposed to rain cats & dogs today!

It started raining hard last night and when we woke up this morning it was actually quite pleasant.  As the day went on, the clouds started to roll in.  By 1pm, we had a little micro burst so I thought for sure we wouldn't be having any pictures taken today.  Well, we got lucky and it cleared up by the time we needed to head to Nephi.

We were to meet Natalie at 6:30pm.  I told Jim we needed to load up and be on our way at 5:30pm (way early, I know.  But I'm OCD like that).  We had just passed Payson and heading for Santaquin when a police car passed us with lights & sirens going, then another.  Jim said there must be an accident up ahead.  I didn't think too much of it.  BUT, then we came to a complete stop just 1 mile north of the Santaquin exit! Agh!!  I thought for sure we'd be sitting on the freeway for hours with 2 restless boys and we'd miss our picture appointment, again!

I could see the police lights up ahead so we figured the accident wasn't too far ahead.   6 or 7 more police vehicles passed us as well as incident management with a sign saying the left lane was closed.  Things started to finally move after about 20 minutes or so and finally we were to the accident.  It was horrible!  I'm sure whoever was in that vehicle didn't make it.  It had obviously rolled and landed on the top of the car.  The roof was all caved in.  It was terrible.  I decided  that I could never be a police officer, ambulance worker, or nurse.

We were back to freeway speeds around 6:10pm so I texted Natalie to let her know we were on our way.  We actually made it to Nephi right on time--we weren't even late.  Thank goodness we decided to leave a little early and we were actually ready and able to leave early :)

When we got to the place where Natalie was going to take Ry's pics, we all got out of the car and were checking things out.  Jake was so funny.  He went right up to Natalie and put his arms out and wanted her to pick him up.  I thought that was so strange.  He usually give people he's never met before the stink eye :)  He must like Natalie, haha.

Ryan was a little stink for the pictures.  He wouldn't sit still and Natalie couldn't get him in a good place to take any pictures.  It was really cold, too.  The sun was shining, but the wind was blowing and it was freezing cold!  It could be worse though--it could be raining or snowing :)  Natalie took pics of Ryan for about an hour and was able to get some good shots of him.

At the very end of the shoot, Natalie mentioned that Ry looked like he had peed his pants and probably needed a change.  He was wearing a diaper and jeans so if pee had soaked through his diaper clear through his jeans, he was probably soaked!

It was so cold though, we just got in the car.  We decided to stop at Wendy's for a bite to eat and change Ry's diaper.  Well, Wendy's was a mad house!  It was so busy and SLOW!!  I think people are getting an early start on their Easter weekend.  I waited in line to order at least 20 minutes.  I thought Wendy's was fast food??

Anyway, I didn't know if the line would move fast or slow, so I didn't get to change Ry's diaper right away.  After waiting in line to get food for so long, after we got our food we were so hungry we just started to eat.  When we were done eating and cleaning things up, Ryan said he wanted to wash his hands, which made me remember I needed to change Ryan's diaper.  He told me he didn't need a change, he just wanted to wash his hands.

Ryan asked if I would carry him to go wash his hands.  When I picked Ryan up, his whole butt was wet. I told Jim I was going to need his change of clothes that was in the car. I put Ryan down while Jim stayed with the boys in Wendy's.  I picked up Ryan and carried him to the bathroom in Walker's.  Ryan immediately started to freak out.  Remember, Wendy's/Walker's is super busy and the bathroom was, too.  I tried to stay calm and tell Ryan it would be ok, that I would be soft and fast.  When I took his pants off he immediately started to throw a tizzy fit!  People were staring at me.  To make matters worse, he had poo on his legs and it didn't smell the best.

I started to wipe Ry's bum and he flipped out.  I looked at his leg and his leg had a sore on it from where his jeans had rubbed it raw.  I knew it hurt, but I had to get him cleaned up.  Every time I would wipe, Ryan would touch his junk and get poop on his hands.  Then he would touch his shirt or his face, etc. and get poop every where.  I started to lose my cool a little bit.  A lady started talking to Ry and asked if I needed help.  I wanted to punch her in the face!  I was having a terrible moment in my life and just needed a little privacy.  She stood there and watched and said laying on those changing tables can be scary.  I told her he wasn't scared of the changing table but he had a sore on his leg.  Seriously, some people...

I got Ry cleaned up and we got on our way home.  I'm glad we were finally able to get Ryan's pictures taken.  Now if the weather would just warm up already :)

* Update:  I got some of Ryan's pictures back and they turned out so cute.  Here are some of my favorites:

A little side note on this one--Ry's new thing is to cross his eyes.  I think he just figured out how to do it :)  He crossed his eyes at the photo shoot, pointed at me, and said, "Look, two mommies!" Too funny!

So Sleepy

It's been a gloomy day out today--it has rained and been overcast pretty much the entire day.  The morning got away from me, too, so I didn't even get the boys tubbed until 11:45am.  Luckily I got up and got ready this morning so I at least got that out of the way :)

We came downstairs after the boys were ready, and I was doing some work in the kitchen when I heard some snoring.  I went in and Jake was asleep, sitting up, on the couch.  Poor little fella!  I think the gloomy weather put him right to sleep!!  Plus, he didn't get to sleep until 10pm last night because we got home late from Dallin's party in Levan.

While Jake slept, Ryan wanted to paint.  The same Cat in the Hat was on this morning where they talked about rainbows so Ry was dying to paint a rainbow again today.  Since we couldn't go outside, we definitely had to paint :)

As Ryan was painting, he kept saying, "I LOVE to paint mom!"  He's my little artist :)  Maybe one of these days I'll let Jake in on the painting action, haha.

Jake didn't wake up until 4:15pm!  I couldn't believe he slept so long--I had to go up and check on him twice just to make sure he was ok.   It was making me nervous that he was sleeping so long, but I guess he was just super tired today.  I wish I could take a 4 hour nap :)

The rest of the day was just business as usual.  Except the boys wanted to go outside after it stopped raining.  When they came back in, they tracked mud all over the kitchen floor and a little on the carpet before I noticed, ugh.  Oh well, I don't have anything else to do but clean up, right :)
