Crawling

Jake has been sooo close to crawling for some time now.  He can go from sitting to getting on all fours and back to sitting.  He'll get on all fours and rock, but he just hasn't been able to get his legs to go!

Today, he thought he'd just skip crawling and start working on walking.  He keeps trying to stand up and balance.  I told him he couldn't do that though--isn't it an old wives tale that if babies don't crawl they won't have rhythm.  That's a no go in my family, haha.
Jake holding on to the banister rails to help him stand.

Jake would stand on his tippy toes.  I thought it was cute :)
Ryan had to come and check things out.
I had Jake sit down and tried to get him to crawl.  He wasn't too interested though; he still kept trying to stand!
Doesn't he just look full of it :)

After lunch, I took him in by the tv to see if I could get him to crawl.  He kept trying to stand up!  He started to get a little too brave with his standing skills and fell down and bonked his head.  He was getting ornery, too so I put him down for a nap.

After his nap, he decided to give crawling a second (more like 100th, haha) chance.  He finally got the hang of it!  I was talking to my mom on the phone and Jim yelled at me to come see Jake cause he was crawling.  It was so cute!  He still isn't too sure about crawling and doesn't do it often, but he has officially crawled!  SO, even if he never crawls again, he'll have rhythm, right :) haha

Trike Rides and Boots

Ryan gave Jake a ride on his trike today.  He's changed his mind and decided it's okay to have Jake touch his trike :)  I was worried that Jake was going to fall off, but Jake had a death grip on the handle bars but.  They both had a ball!

I love Jake's smile in this pic
Check out Jake's grip!  He is seriously so strong.
Jake loved his ride :)
Ryan took a spin all by himself after Jake was done.  He was saying "cheese" for the camera :)
He grabbed his trucks and wanted me to take a picture.  He's getting the hang of my picture taking obsession, haha.
Jake thinks he's a big boy and tries to stand up.  He's trying to get a good enough grip on the wall to stand.  Little stinker!
He thought he was pretty strong, but not quite strong enough to stand.
Ryan put my boots on later in the day.  He loves putting our shoes on and walking around.
He's pretty silly.
Trying to lift his foot with my massive boot on.

Ryan's Trike

It was a pretty nice day out today.  I wanted to take Ryan out to play so we got Ryan's trike set up that Clint won at Jim's work Christmas Party and gave to us.  Strange enough, after Jim got the trike all put together Ryan didn't want to go outside.  I don't think he understood that he could ride it outside so he just rode it inside.

His legs are a bit too short to reach the peddles so he just has to scoot around.  He can scoot pretty good though :)  The trike is pretty basic--no bells or whistles.  He needs a horn for his trike or maybe a basket, haha.

He's really protective of his trike.  If Jake even gets near his trike, Ryan has a complete melt down.  The first time Jake touched the handlebar, Ryan threw Jakes hand off.  I don't think it hurt Jake, but it made him mad so he was bawling.  Then Ryan started bawling because he was mad that Jake had touched his trike.  It was a bawl fest :)

Sunday

I've always said that it would be better for us to move back to 9am church because Jake takes his morning nap around 10:30am and so we usually can't make it to church at 11am.  Well, we got our wish.  Our church got moved back to 9am and back to the meeting house that is just three blocks from our house.

We planned on going to church today.  But, of course, Jake got up at 5:45am.  By the time we got him back to sleep, (yes, Jim helped get him back to sleep after I fed him) got back to sleep ourselves, and woke up again it was 8:10am.  We didn't wake up until Ryan woke up, crying.  Ryan usually wakes up super happy so this was unusual for him.

Ryan was a prune from the minute he woke up for some reason.  He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't let anyone hold him, he was just a prune!  After the rest of us ate breakfast, Jim and Ryan went and sat on the couch and watched a little t.v.  Soon after, Ryan puked all over Jim.  We now know why Ryan was so ornery; he isn't feeling good--no wonder he's being so stubborn and whiney.

He took a morning nap the same time as Jake.  After he woke up, he puked again all over Jim.  After, he actually wanted to eat and drink so we fed him some lunch.
He wanted olives for lunch.  They were just one of the many odd things he ate for lunch today. He was loving putting olives on his fingers.
Jakey drinking his juice.
I love his mug!
Big cheeser--I swear you can see where his top teeth are going to be.
Ryan's thumb two days after the accident.  The nail has turned black but we're still not sure if it will fall off or not.  At first, Ryan did not want a band aid on his thumb. He'd bawl when we put one on.  Now, he bawls if his band-aid falls off.  I think he's realized that we put it on to help him :)

His thumb must be feeling a bit better.  He'll use his hurt hand more now, but he still guards it pretty good.  I'll ask him how his thumb is and he'll say, "Eww (in a high pitched tone--I wish I could explain how it sounds because it is soo funny).  I got him some Cars band-aids to put on his owie.  Now Jake notices his hurt thumb because of the band-aid and he's always grabbing at Ry's thumb. Ry will say, "No No Key!"  Cracks me up.

Ryan started feeling better after lunch.  He started to play and act normal.  We bathed him after lunch and he took another afternoon nap that helped get him feeling better, too.  Of course Ryan had to start feeling sick the day before Jim leaves and the day before we're supposed to go to Levan.  I hope things keeps getting better because I really don't want to stay home while Jim goes.

St. George Conference

Jim left today to attend a conference for work in St. George.  Yep, I packed up and headed to Levan for the week :)  I can do one night alone, but not 3 nights and 4 days...not yet anyway.  I'll work up to that.

We actually spent most of today home.  My dad had an appointment with a doctor to see about getting this weird growth taken off of his knee.  Then they ran a few errands so they were in Provo for most of the day.  They stopped by our house to see if I needed any help getting things loaded, etc.  Both of the boys took their naps at home.  Ryan was still asleep when Mong-ma and Bock-ba got there so we just had to wait for him to wake up.  As soon as he woke up, we headed for Levan, which was around 4pm.

We didn't do much when we got to Levan; we unloaded the car, got settled in, Ryan went and found all of his favorite toys, etc.  My mom & dad got Cafe Rio for lunch and they brought me a salad so we weren't hungry.  I made Ryan a little something to eat for dinner and then we got ready for bed.

Ryan didn't want anything to do with going to bed.  I finally had to get mean and take him into Grandma's room (he sleeps with my mom when I go and stay in Levan) and make him stay there.  He finally fell asleep after about 1/2 hour of watching t.v. and listening to my and my mom talk.

I had put Jake to sleep before working on getting Ryan to sleep.  After I got Ryan to sleep, my dad came in and told me he could hear Jake fussing.  I thought I was going to be in for a long night.  BUT, after rocking Jake back to sleep he slept the whole night clear until 8:30am!  I actually had to go up and check on him in the morning--he usually doesn't sleep that long.

This is the only picture I took on Monday.  I got this shirt for Jake for Christmas.  Ryan has the same shirt but it says Big Bro on it.  I saved them to have their pictures taken in them and totally forgot I had them, grr.  SO, I tried to get a picture of the boys in them and it didn't work out so red hot.  Jake was bawling (he was ready for his nap) and Ryan wouldn't even cooperate for one pic.

Tuesday February 23, 2010:

My mom had to go to a Relief Society practice at 9am this morning.  While she got ready, I fed the boys (including my dad, haha--he loves Cream of Wheat and that's what I make Jake for breakfast so he gets some, too!) and then got Ryan and Jake in the tub.  Mom came home a little after 10am.  She watched the boys while I got ready.  Then, Jake went for a nap.  While he slept, I ran into Nephi to get a few things that we needed at the grocery store and then I went to Remember Your Memories to use Jamie's Cricut cutter.  I've decided Cricut cutters are pretty darn cool and I wouldn't mind having one of my own {hint, hint Jim} haha.

When I ran into Nephi, I stopped at the Callway's house.  My dad thinks I need to pour some cement steps by our back door like theirs so I stopped to see them.  His "club" buddies were there so I snapped a pic.

When I came home, Jake was up and had had lunch and Ryan was sleeping.  We waited and waited for Ryan to wake up.  I wanted to take Jake over to the post office and have him weighed.  It was after 3pm (the PO closes at 3:30pm here in Levan) so we decided to just run over and have him weighed.  My dad was home; he was just upstairs playing pool with Arlo.  We told dad to listen for Ryan and that we'd be right back.

Jakey being a silly boy while we were waiting for Ryan to wake up from his nap.

Jake weighed in at 16 pounds and 9 1/2 ounces so he's gained 1 pound 2 ounces since his last doctor appointment.  We actually go on Monday for our next appointment to see how much weight he's gained and what the next step will be.  BUT, I was curious how much he'd gained with all that he eats.  He literally eats 4-5 meals a day and nurses just as much.  I feel like I'm constantly feeding him.  It's getting old, but I hope he can keep gaining weight.

Jake on the scales at Levan's PO.  He wasn't too sure about what we were making him do.
Checking Greg out--he wasn't too sure about him either :)

Anyway, when we came home (we were literally gone 5 minutes) Ryan had woke up.  We got the boys a snack and made some brownies (yum, my favorite).  We played and hung out for a while.  Jake started to get tired so I put him down for a nap around 4pm.  He slept until 6:15pm--it was starting to make me nervous that he was sleeping too long and he wouldn't go to bed that night.  BUT, I read in a book that you should never wake a sleeping baby.  Luckily, he woke up so I didn't have to wake him.

We made dinner, cleaned up, talked to Jim and then got the boys ready for bed.  Again, Ryan wanted nothing to do with bed or Grandma's room.  SO, I put Jake down first.  He was not tired at all, ugh.  I fed him, rocked him, and put him in the crib.  He was wide awake when I left.  I went and got Ryan and got him to at least sit on Grandma's bed.  I could hear Jake bawling so Grandma got ready for bed and layed by Ryan so I could go take care of Jake.  I had to go and rock Jake and he went back to sleep, thank goodness.  After I got Jake to sleep, I went back downstairs to check on Ryan.  He had went to sleep, wahoo.  I went upstairs and went to bed too.  I didn't sleep so red hot the first night so I wanted to get some shut eye :)

Ryan licked the frosting spatula.  He is slowly starting to like sweets.
Yum!
Ryan even talked to Jim on my phone.  He looks like he's been using a cell phone his entire life.
So funny!

Wednesday February 24, 2010:

Both boys slept in a bit today.  We got up around 7:45am.  Ryan saw some left over mashed potatoes in the fridge and wanted them for breakfast.  When he gets something in his head, that's what it's got to be so he had mashed spuds for breakfast, yum!

Other than Ryan having mashed potatoes for breakfast, it was a pretty normal day.  We just played and hung out.  Jim actually came home from St. George this afternoon.  There is a meeting his superiors decided he needed to go to in Draper so he came home.  Since he had to go to work all day though, I decided to stay the night at my mom's.

Thursday February 25, 2010:

Another pretty usual day except we packed to go home.  Jim was working until around 5pm so I didn't want to be home until then :)  We left Levan around 4:15pm and got home right before Jim.  I unpacked our bags and got us all re-situated back home.  Jim was so kind to let me go to my gym class that is on Thursday nights.  It felt good to go to class--I was tired though; I debated on whether I wanted to go or not, but I'm glad I went.

Thanks mom and dad for letting us come and stay.  I'm sure my mom didn't get much sleep the three nights we were there having Ryan sleep with her.  BUT, I'm so glad she lets us stay and is so accomodating.  We love coming to Levan :)

Cougarette Showcase

Tonight, my mom, Molly, Paula, Emilee, and I met for dinner at Gloria's Little Italy in Provo.  Dinner was good and the conversation was fab, as always. I love getting together with my mom and sisters.

Emilee, mom, me, Paula, and Molly at dinner at Gloria's Little Italy in Provo

After dinner, we went to the Sweet Tooth Fairy.  Wow--if you haven't been there you need to go!  I had the most delectable Red Velvet Cupcake--yum.  I didn't stop there--I also got an assortment of cake bites.  It came with 6 so I got 2 red velvet, 2 chocolate, 1 lemon, and 1 strawberry.  I tried 2 and saved the rest.  I was nearly sick from all of the sugar.  My favorite were the chocolate and red velvet.  The lemon and strawberry were just so-so to me.   I'd give my right eye for some more about now :)

My mom and sisters then left and went to the Cougarette showcase. I still have to feed Jake before bed each night so I opted out of the performance and just went for dinner.  I did run into Sam's Club to get some diapers though.  I thought it would be a quick trip in and it was until I got to the check out line.  Why do I always get behind the person that claims to have "thousands" in their checking account so they don't know why the card isn't working??  Hmm... finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they moved the couple to another register to figure things out.

I got home just in time to get the boys in their jammies and start bedtime routines.  I brought Jim home some dinner and his favorite dessert, Tiramisu.

OH, I just have to mention...I tried my very first Step class this morning at the gym.  Jamie and I met there at 7am.  I was the first person there so I chatted with the instructor for a bit.  She did tell me to not get frustrated if I didn't know the moves she was calling out.  I didn't think it could be that hard.  I looked like a big dum-dum.  I got the first couple of combonations down but then we kept adding on and adding on.  I didn't think I got a good work out at all but my legs are feeling it :)  I think I'll try Step one more time to see if I can catch on a bit better.  It's definitely a good workout if you can keep up :)

Mother of the Year

On Valentine's Day, Ryan fell of the barstool in the booster seat because I didn't secure it with the belt to the chair.  He got a big goose egg and hurt his nose and it was my fault.

Four days later, I let Jake fall.  I set him in the bumbo chair so I could hurry and get dinner started.  It would only take me a second (I was putting some chicken in the crock pot--the chicken was already trimmed, I just needed to pour some broth in the crock pot and throw the chicken in) so I didn't buckle the belt on the chair.  I did scoot the chair to the middle of the counter though.  Next thing I know, Jake is bawling his eyes out and laying on his belly on the counter!  I about died!!

Pour little fella flipped out of the chair and bumped his mouth on the counter and got a fat lip :(  Once again, all my fault.  I'm feeling pretty good about now.
Jake's first fat lip

A different view of the lip
He was getting mad at me taking pictures of him and not picking him up.  It had to be documented though :)
A close up of the lip with my macro lens.

Jake took a nap after he bumped his mouth.  He woke up happy as could be.  I'm glad babies still love you no matter what.
He ate lunch in the booster chair since Ryan wanted to sit in the bumbo.  Ryan is way to big for the bumbo, but he insists.
Jake is quite the big boy.  He still REFUSES a bottle--won't even consider one.  I can't even trick him and put formula in a sippy cup. He still hates it.  SO, he drinks juice and water from a sippy.  He's getting pretty good at it, too.  He can grab the cup and get it in his mouth.  Soon enough he'll get the idea that he has to tip it up to get something to drink :)
The boys at lunch--no, Ryan doesn't usually sit that close to the edge.  I moved him over for a picture.  Doesn't he look like a big goof in that chair?!?  He loves to sit in it though.  Jake just loves Ryan.  He was laughing at Ryan's foot hitting the tray of the booster seat.  He thought it was so funny for some reason.  I love my boys--they drive me batty some days, but I still love them to pieces and I feel bad when things happen to them that were my fault and that could have been avoided :(

Here's the worst of them all.  Two days after Jake's bump, we had yet another incident with Ryan.  It was snowing to Jim was getting snow off of the driveway so it didn't turn to ice.  Ryan LOVES to be outside so he had to help.  He grabbed his little red snow shovel and was shoveling snow.  He was around the front of the house so I called his name and he came running back.  He tripped over his shovel while running and fell down.  He started crying so Jim went and picked him up.  I have to admit, we thought it was a good way to get Ryan to come inside finally.  We didn't even know he was hurt until they got in the house and saw the blood.

I'm not sure how he did it, but Ryan flipped his thumb nail out from under his skin.  The nail didn't come all the way off though.  All I can say is OUCH!  We're not sure if he'll lose the enitre nail yet or not.  Only time will tell.  Again, I feel like him falling was my fault.  If I wouldn't have yelled for him, he wouldn't have been running and wouldn't have fallen.  I should have just went out front to get him.
Ryan's poor thumb a few minutes after the incident.  It doesn't look soo bad here, but it is bad.
I'm sure his thumb hurt so bad.  He wouldn't move his whole hand :(
Another pic of Ry's thumb before it got bandaged by Dr. Dad :)  We're not sure what exactly happened, but it looks like the thumb nail came out from under his cuticle and detached from his nail bed, eww.
Jim didn't want his picture taken, if you can't tell.  But I'm so glad he is a certified EMT and has his "tool" kit with all the goods to fix wounds up.  I thought my handy dandy band-aids would do the trick, but Ryan's thumb was bleeding pretty good and needed a bigger bandage.
Ryan's thumb all bandaged up.  He was really good and kept the bandage on the rest of the night and even slept with it on.
Jake was really good while we doctored Ryan up.  He just played in the saucer like a good boy and he was happy to do it :)
My cute Jakey boy.

I am offically up for Mother of the Year award, ugh.
