Visit to see Grandpa

My mom is on her European vacation with Arlou so my dad is home alone for a whopping 2 1/2 weeks!! We decided to go to Levan to visit my dad and help Emilee make lunch for him.

Emilee made yummy meatloaf, baked potatoes, squash, and carrots. We brought cauliflower, rolls, and apple crisp with ice cream for dessert.  There was plenty leftover so dad will have some food to eat during the week :)

After we got lunch cleaned up, we went outside. It was such a nice day outside! After playing for a few hours, we went on a ride around town. Then we came back to the house to get ready to head back home.

I hate leaving my dad home alone mainly because I know how much I hate staying home alone. I know he's fine though, but I'm sure he'll be happy when my mom is back home.

Ryan swinging in the baby swing.  He can sit in one of the regular swings but he insists on taking a turn in the baby swing for some reason.
I learned about composition in my photography class last week.  Our teacher challenged us to find some of the 9 kinds of composition throughout the week.  I thought this was a good picture of symmetry :)
I love the clouds in this picture.
A course the boys had to go for rides on the lawn mower.
Grandpa drove a little close to the swings :)
Ethan and Grandpa on the lawn mower.
Ryan thinks he's pretty big when Grandpa lets him drive the lawn mower.

For some reason Jake loves to eat dirt, still.  He has a dirt goatee from all the dirt he ate today.
Another pic using what I learned in my photography class.  I thought this would work for an asymmetrical picture because the one bundle of cornstalks is shorter than the other.  I'm still learning...

Happy Halloween!!

Trick Or Treating at the Zoo

We took the boys to the zoo to trick or treat today.  Camille, the girl that did my hair yesterday, mentioned that she and her husband were taking their daughter to the zoo to trick or treat.  Ryan LOVES the zoo so we decided to take the boys there to do the Halloween thing.

We left our house a little after 9am.  Trick or treating ran from 9am to 3pm so I wanted to get to the zoo as early as we could.  Instead of taking time to eat breakfast at home, we stopped at McDonald's and ate on our way up.

We got to the zoo around 10:15am and it was busy!  We had to drive around the parking lot a few times to find a place to park.  It actually wasn't too bad once we got inside though.

The boys ready to head into the zoo.  I had them wear regular clothes on the ride up (especially since they ate their breakfast in their car seats by themselves) and then changed them into their costumes once we got to our destination.

Last year, we went to Spanish Fork's festivities for Halloween.  I had bought costumes from Old Navy for the boys.  Ryan was obsessed with bee's last year so we dressed them up as bee's.  They were the cutest little bee's ever, too!  As we were walking down main street trick-or-treating, I heard some ladies saying that they hate when people just buy costumes and they love to see home made costumes.  For some reason, I took it to heart.  It's not like I was the only mom who purchased their kids Halloween costumes, but I felt that way.  SO, I was determined to make my kids costumes the next year.  I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make it happen but I sure wanted to try.

After we went to Toy Story 3 for Jake's birthday, I decided it would be fun to dress the boys up as Woody and Buzz.  I recruited my mom to help me be "creative" and think of how I could make a Woody and a Buzz costume.

My mom sewed my boys' costumes for me while we were staying with her.  I think they turned out FABULOUS!  My boys loved them, too.

I didn't take many animal pictures today.  There weren't many animals that were out because it was a bit chilly and we didn't go in any of the buildings.
Me and the boys trick or treating.
Some of the scenery at the zoo.
It took Ry a little bit to warm up to the idea of trick or treating, but once he warmed up he was good to go.  Ryan made one pretty darn cute space ranger :)
We spent a lot of time looking at the giraffe's.  Mainly because this giraffe was licking the wall and I couldn't get over how disgusting it's tongue is!!  It's ridiculously long and black, ick!!  If you look close you can see the tongue in the picture.
The boys
The zoo had little bales of hay placed throughout for little picture opportunities.
They even had a photographer there taking free pictures.  I'm sure the photographer's pic turned out better than mine.  I can't wait to see it--it should be emailed to me in about a week.
Jake as Woody--he's a pretty darn cute Woody, too.
We had to ride the zoo train, of course.  Ryan was really good about being patient when we were getting on.  And he even did really well went we had to get off.  Amazingly he didn't even throw a fit and want to ride again, whew.
Here he is showing me his laser :)
Ryan really loved riding the train.  He sat up and looked at everything as we would go by.
Jake thinks he's a big boy and sat all by himself.  I was sitting right next to him.  He would push my hand away any time I tried to hold on to him though, little stinker.
We borrowed my cousin's little boys boots.  They were a bit big on Jake but he LOVES the boots.
Jake and me at the entrance to the zoo.  This is after we were done trick or treating and ready to go get some lunch.
Jim and Jake--Ryan was too busy looking at the water to get a picture.
A nice lady offered to take a picture with all of us in it.  I was soo happy.  I get nervous to ask people to take a picture of us sometimes so I was really glad she offered.

We went to Noodles & Co. for lunch and then headed back to Spanish Fork.  Both of the boys were asleep before we even got on I-15!  They were exhausted :)

Jim dug up the cannas when we got home.  We had to go inside shortly after though because it started to pour rain.  SO, we decided to carve pumpkins.  Jim also roasted a pumpkin and made his own pumpkin puree out of it.
Carving pumpkins
Jim also made some Pumpkin Cranberry bread this afternoon with some fresh grated pumpkin.
Ryan wanted his Buzz costume on again so Jake wanted his on, too.  After about 3 minutes, Jake was tugging at his costume and wanted it back off.  As I was taking his costume off, Jim thought it would be funny to just put his vest back on.  He looked a little pimp in just his vest :)
There was an awesome rainbow because of the rain.  It was really bright towards the bottom, but I didn't want to go out in the rain so this is the best picture I could get.

We just chilled the rest of the night at home and watched the Shrek and Monsters vs. Aliens specials on t.v.  We had 4 or 5 groups of trick or treaters is all.  Ryan loved answering the door for them even though he wouldn't hand out candy to them.  He'd just stare at them :)

We had a really fun Halloween this year!!

Nice Day

It was a really nice day out today so we made sure to get outside and play!

Ryan ready to go outside.
Jake thinks he is so funny when he climbs up on the sand box.
He was putting sand down the umbrella pole.
Ryan had a great time digging in the sand box.
And they had to play with their mows, too.
Silly Jakey

Ryan running like a wild man.

I sure do love this fall weather we've been having.  I wouldn't mind if it stayed just like this until Spring :)

Thriller

At the end of August, my aunt Lisa sent out an email asking if anyone wanted tickets to go see Thriller.  I haven't been to Thriller since Jim and I were dating.  I could finally go this year because I didn't have school, work, or babies to keep me home :)  October seemed like forever away, but it actually came really fast.

I invited my friend Lacy to go to the show.  We left Spanish around 4:30pm and headed to meet the rest of the group at the Olive Garden in Sandy for dinner.  Traffic was horrendous and we barely made it with enough time to still have dinner.

Dinner was great,  but we left in a rush so we could make it to Kingsbury Hall on time.  The show started at 7:30pm and we made it to the theatre at 7:10pm.  At least we didn't have to sit in the theatre forever :)

There are always zombies walking around outside trying to scare everyone.  I was trying really hard to act brave and not be scared.
Lacy and me with a dead girl.
Madeline was a bit scared of the zombie :)
The group ready for the show.  Shari, Karlie, Emilee, Madeline, Amy, Lisa, Marci, Lacy, and me all went along with the JHS Drill Team and a bunch of their mom's.
Marci, Lacy, and me
Another picture of some of the group.

The show was really good.  A lot of the numbers were those that I had already seen before.  They did have a few new dance numbers and acts that were new to me that were also really good.  I'm glad I was able to go.
Lacy and I after the show.

Somehow we got separated from the group as we were walking out.  We waited outside for everyone but they never came out.
The lady that took our picture for us asked if we wanted a picture with a zombie.  She said she could have it arranged because her daughter was one of the zombie dancers :)
