I took Jake to his 6 month check up today, even though it is more like his 7 month check up :) We took him to his 2 month check up late so it has pushed the rest of his check up behind due to immunizations.
Anyway, I was really glad he had his appointment today. I started getting headaches last week that turned into body aches that then turned into a sore throat. By Sunday night I was really feeling it. I had Dr.
Behrmann take a look at me while I was there. I was just going to schedule an appointment for me with a doctor, but I thought why not kill two birds with one stone?? I was little nervous to ask him to check me out, but I'm glad I did. Turns out I have a ear and throat infection--
hmm, sounds just like my kids. Now I know how they feel and it's not good. I'm now on antibiotics and
acetaminophen for the body aches.
My little
Jakey on the other hand isn't gaining any weight, which was a big concern to Dr. Behrmann. He grew about 1 1/2 inches but only gained about 2 ounces since his last visit two months ago. He is even eating 3-4 meals a day on top of nursing 4-5 times a day. I thought for sure he would have gained some weight. He is well though so he was able to get 5 immunizations and the first dose of H1N1.
I have to take Jake back in a month to get the second H1N1 dose and to check up on his weight. For now, I have to try and get him to drink some formula, which is quite the task, to get some extra calories in him. To say he HATES formula is an understatement. He looks at me like I'm trying to kill him and gags and shutters. Plus, he will not swallow the stuff. We may have to use the syringe to get any in him.
I called the doctor this afternoon to see if it would be okay to give Jake
Pediasure--yes, like Ensure for old people, but
Pediasure is for kids :) Jim ran to the store tonight to get some for Jake. Jake REFUSED to drink the
Pediasure from a bottle and a
sippy cup. So, we mixed his rice cereal with apple juice,
Pediasure, and baby food and he ate it right up. I guess that is the magic formula we will be using to get Jake to gain some weight. I thought it wouldn't be so bad to have Jake not drink formula because it is so expensive. This
Pediasure stuff is super expensive, too. I hope he doesn't have to be on it for long.
Here are his 6 1/2 month stats:
Weight - 15.8 pounds, which is in the 25th percentile
Height - 26 1/2 inches, which is in the 50th percentile
Head Circumference - 42 cm, which is in the 10th percentile
Hopefully we can little Jakey to gain some weight. I'm not sure what the next step will be if that doesn't happen ??
