I got an email from the Family Readiness Group leader a few weeks ago about a marriage enrichment seminar in St. George. I've been wanting to go to one to see what they are all about ever since Jim got home from Iraq but we've never been able to go. BUT, this time things worked out where Jim didn't have drill and my mom would watch our boys so we could go.
Friday January 21, 2011:
After packing our bags and getting ready, we got in the car and headed to Levan. We got to my parents house around Noon and had lunch with them. We stayed and got all of the boys stuff situated and played for a bit. Around 1:45pm, we got on the road and headed to St. George. We made one stop in Beaver to get a drink and some cheese curd. We got to St. George around 4:30pm and checked into our hotel.
We relaxed in our room for an hour or so. Jim brought our lap top down so he could load Photoshop on it for me. I'm taking a community ed class to learn how to use photoshop and I have homework so I had to get the program loaded on my computer :)
There was an ice cream social (that wasn't mandatory) that night at 7pm. BUT, we opted to go out to dinner and a movie instead :) We went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner. It was divine--I LOVE their house salad and chicken on the barbie. Delicious! Jim got prime rib or something like that, ha ha. Then we went and got tickets to see "True Grit". My sister and mom had seen the movie and said it was really good so we decided to see it. Oh man, it was such a great movie. I would highly recommend it!
After the movie, we came back to the hotel and watched a little tv before going to bed. We had to be up and ready by 7:30ish so we went to bed early. Our neighbors decided to have a late night though and they weren't quiet about it. I heard them about 1:30 in the morning discussing when they'd get up, etc., ugh...people are rude.
Saturday January 22, 2011:
On Saturday, we got up, got ready, and headed downstairs for the continental breakfast. It wasn't too bad, but I wasn't digging the eggs or the biscuits and gravy. I opted for a bagel and some juice :) Oh, and a cinnamon roll that wasn't too red hot, but I have a terrible sweet tooth and I couldn't resist.
After breakfast, we went to the conference room for the seminar. I had no idea what to expect so I was a little nervous for it to start. I had to keep telling myself everyone was there to learn :) And we ended up learning some really good things--good ways to communicate and listen to each other more effectively.
The hotel also kept us really well fed. A fruit tray, cookies, and drinks were brought in around 10:30am for our first 10 minute break. I actually felt like I needed some caffeine but I wasn't hungry. Jim's allergic to melon and grapes so I skipped out on the fruit and had a cookie or two :) They were really good. For lunch at 12:30pm, they had a taco bar. I know, it sounds disgusting, but it was actually really good. About an hour after lunch, they brought in a vegetable tray, brownies, and more drinks. We got done at 3pm--I felt like all I did was sit, listen, and eat today :)
Jim and I after lunch waiting for the second half of the seminar to start.
This cute baby sat in front of us. For being 10 months old, he did really well. My boys would've been bawling and squawking; they never would've lasted all day in a seminar :)
After the seminar got out at 3pm, we went back to the room and took a little siesta and relaxed for a few. Around 4ish we got up and ran a few errands and did a little shopping--Jim was thrilled. Then we decided to go to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Holy cow, that place is busy. We had to wait over an hour to get in. It was pretty tasty though so the wait was worth it :)
We headed back to the hotel after dinner and went to bed. I actually wasn't feeling too red hot. Before coming to St. George I had been a little congested and having headaches every so often. I got really stuffy and the headaches were terrible tonight. I got up around 3am to get some more Tylenol in me. Jim thought he was keeping me up so he moved over to the other bed :)
Sunday January 23, 2011:
It felt like I had just got to sleep and it was time to get up again, ugh. I felt terrible--but I got up and got ready so we could get some breakfast before the seminar started at 9am. It was the same old thing for breakfast and I still wasn't digging it so I had my same old bagel, cinnamon roll, and juice, ha ha.
We took a personality test in class today and mine was spot on. It was crazy. We also talked about love languages--I learned that my love languages are to talk and to touch, which is totally me.
We were only in class until 11:30am and then we were dismissed. Jim and I had already taken our bags to the car and checked out so as soon as class was over we got in the car and headed for home. Our hotel was in Washington, just right outside of St. George. So instead of just jumping right on the freeway to come home, we went through Washington, Hurricane, La Verkin, and Toquerville before we got on I-15. It was kind of fun to see the small towns.
I was totally exhausted from sleeping like crap the night before so I slept a good portion of the way home. I felt bad because I know Jim was tired, too, but he was a good sport about it. We didn't make any stops on the way home so we got into Levan at 2:30pm. They were just sitting down to lunch so we ate with them.
Jake was asleep, but Ryan was happy to see us. Ryan fell asleep by Jim while I was helping clean up lunch. Since both boys were asleep, I took advantage and took another nap :) Jake was so excited to see us when he woke up. He gave me a big hug and a kiss then laid on my shoulder--made my heart melt. I love my boys. We left Levan around 6:30pm to come home.
I think we learned a lot this weekend at the seminar. It was good to get away, too. The Army paid for the bulk of the meals (we just had to pay for two dinners) and the room. The only other expense we had was gas to get down there. I really appreciate my parents tending our boys, too. I know it's not the funnest thing in the world to do, but they're always so kind to help me out. Thanks mom and dad!!
